This ones a pure Everglades tarpon fly. It's all about the the seductiveness of rabbit strips, the wiggling action when retrieved. It's all atractor, there's nothing in this fly that has anything to do with representation, this is a pure stimulator, it's meant to glow and move seductively.
It's not just for blackwater either, they work on sleepers in the 10,000 Islands too, but I'll change the hue slightly, and lighten the contrast for the green water.
As with all rabbit strip flies, fouling is a primary concern so there's a mono loop under the tail, coupled with a stinger of frosty fish fiber, and for the moment, I'm tying it "Key's Style,." as well.
It's no sweat to add eyes or weed guards to this fly..
I tie an array of colors between the dark purples on one end and almost pure white at the other. Fish first see the contrast of light and dark, then of hue, so I look for color combinations that might incite those responses.
