Ned, I’ve neglected your site for the last little bit but I’m glad I checked in. Your tying table looks about like mine–a mess. It’s a sign of productivity.
I hope your tarpon season was better than ours. We were on lots of fish in Homosassa in the early season (Kevin had a monster that shook off at boatside) but late May and June were a bust for us. Being a weekend warrior is tough. Now we’re waiting on the fish to filter through the IRL/Mosquito Lagoon–our fish are usually here in early July, but we’ve not yet got a strong push of fish. I’m getting the impression that they’re skipping us this this year.

Hey Chris,
Our spring tarpon season was OK, maybe not like some years past, but the summer season has been interesting! I’ve been fishing in some areas that I haven’t been to in a couple of years and some I’ve never fished before.

Students learn to look for the order that exists at a subtle level in every artist’s studio. And so it is with serious fly tiers. More than just the original tarpon fly still hanging in the vise we are noticing the material bins in the background, the flash rack on the right, and the epoxy bottles just in front. The especially observant picked up the clever, small-size epoxy mixing cups that old bottle caps make!
Hope your skunk works turns out a bunch of killer tarpon flies for next year.
